Malpighian tubules of Rhodnius prolixus: More than post-prandial diuresis

چکیده

Rhodnius prolixus , a major vector of Chagas disease, may be considered the model upon which foundations insect physiology and biochemistry were built. It is an obligate blood feeder in meal triggers growth, development reproduction. The also post-prandial diuresis to maintain osmotic homeostasis. In R. as with other insects, Malpighian tubules play critical role this diuresis, much has been learned about insects. But post-genomic era brought new insights, identifying functions quite apart from for tubules. Indeed, microarrays, transcriptomes, proteomics have revealed roles that immunity, detoxification, pesticide resistance, tolerance overall stress. This particularly relevant since gorging on creates several challenges addition balance. Xenobiotics present or toxins produced by metabolism blood; these must neutralized excreted. These processes not well described at molecular level prolixus. paper will review involvement immunity aspects tubule virtue transcriptome analysis. analysis indicates potential mount robust innate immune response, contribute antioxidant production heme detoxification.

Rhodnius prolixus Malpighian tubules and control of diuresis by neurohormones.

Rhodnius prolixus Malpighian tubules (MTs) are a good model for fluid and ion secretion studies in view of the dramatic postprandial diuresis, which follows its massive blood meals. Ingestion of a blood meal equals to 10-12 times their initial body mass, leads to rapid activation of high output by excretory system, which eliminates 40-50% of the fluid mass. Secretion of ions and water is stimul...

The fluid secreted by the upper segment of Malpighian tubules of Rhodnius prolixus during diuresis

tubules of Rhodnius prolixus during diuresis consists of approximately 100 mmol l–1 NaCl and 80 mmol l–1 KCl (Maddrell and Phillips, 1975). Secretion of ions and osmotically obliged water by tubules of this and other species is driven primarily by an apical vacuolar-type H+-ATPase (Wieczorek et al., 1989; Maddrell and O’Donnell, 1992). It is suggested that electrogenic transport of H+ from the ...

Functional design of microvilli in the Malpighian tubules of the insect Rhodnius prolixus.

The Malpighian tubules of Rhodnius prolixus are divided into two regions; the upper tubule, which is the site of isosmotic secretion and haemolymph filtration, and the lower tubule where water and KCl are resorbed. In the upper tubule the microvilli are arranged in clumps consisting of several hundred microvilli lying closely parallel. The microvillar plasma membranes do not touch but are held ...

Transport of Uric Acid by the Malpighian Tubules of Rhodnius Prolixus and Other Insects

Urate is transported against an electrochemical gradient into the lumen of the lower Malpighian tubule oiRhodnius. In vivo, higher urate transport rates are induced by the increase in haemolymph urate concentration that follows feeding. The induced rate of transport is sufficient to account for the amount of urate eliminated. In vitro experiments with the tsetse fly Glossina suggest a possible ...

Secretion by the Malpighian tubules of Rhodnius prolixus stal: electrical events.

Transepithelial and intracellular potentials have been simultaneously recorded from Rhodnius upper Malpighian tubules before and after stimulation of fluid secretion. The transepithelial electrical response to the diuretic hormone mimic 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) was triphasic; recordings of intracellular potential changes indicated that the three phases represented successive events at the api...
